back in the day, tons of witnesses were brought in the “back room “ to be counseled by elders because of their dress and grooming.
some elders frowned on mustaches or hair that went past a certain point on a male.
women were regularly harassed because their skirt was too long or too short or had a slit on the side.
Watching the tv series Grimm and for watching the movie “The Wizard of Oz”. I told them that I would call them for now on before I watch any tv program or see any movie.
i just turned 62 and celebrated my first birthday at a local restaurant.
nothing exotic, just draft beer and a burger.
i've been using my spare time to make my community a better place to visit.

Great financial advice, which as a young man I never got.
I drive a School Bus, which provides my insurance and I tell every senior about to graduate that all of us have an expiration date. Don’t be like me and playing catch-up in your latter years, start planning early in life.

I do. 5 years ago when I started to express my doubts about the Organization, she was mad and threaten to turn me into the Elders. So I decided to "slow drip" information. First, I reminded her how some Elders can be mean and uncaring, like when she was in the hospital for 30 days recovering from breast cancer, on her first meeting back at the hall, the Service Committee deleted her as a regular pioneer( she was on year 24 as a regular pioneer).
Then we watched a program on JW child abuse. Although throughout the program she would yell out, "that can't be true". I would pause the program and say: "I was an Elder here in this Congregation for 21 years and I can name 3 individuals you know and these very things happened to them. Besides, you have individuals going on national TV, filing police reports, going to trial and winning cases against the Watchtower! And may I remind you, that anyone who files a false report, commits a criminal act, punishable with jail time and fines." So who is lying?

I've been using my spare time to make my community a better place to visit. Our MainStreet org(I'm on the Board of Directors) did a "Touch a Truck event", to kick start our Farmers Market. We had 2 Police cruisers, Fire Ladder Truck, Garbage Truck, Ambulance and an Electric School Bus. It was very successful( I organized it), and it gave me a sense of accomplishment. It was satisfying to me to watch these kids' faces light up when they went inside of these vehicles and got to push buttons, blow the horn and such.
Religious wise, the wife and I aren't doing anything religious. I still privately pray daily, asking for direction and guidance. I did go to a local community church, it was okay. But it is hard to look at the cross, listen to King James old English and such. I've looked at different religious serves on Facebook, but I'm just not feeling it.
My biggest regret, that I never prepared for retirement because I really did believe we were in "The Last Days, Hours, Minutes, Seconds". I'm working 3 jobs just to make ends meet, with no retirement in sight.
Thank You Watchtower! It's your fault that I walked away after 40 years of dedicated service.
the thread about old timers got me thinking about trends i see with the watchtower.
i've changed my opinion about where the organization stands.
when i joined the religion in 1973 it was dynamic, even the small congregation i attended sent out three or four pioneers.
smiddy: I`m surprised they haven`t come up with the last hours / minutes of the last days before this, just to string it along a bit further.
They are now using those expressions, in fact, one Elder said we are now in the Last Seconds of this world.
